Tashkent Women’s International Group (TWIG) visits Bibi Hanum’s showroom
While Bibi Hanum is in process of completing 2018 designs made of new ikat fabrics produced by master artisans and weavers it is also busy organizing various presentations about its work to different members of expat communities of Uzbekistan such as TWIG, Gourmet Club and different Embassies in Tashkent.
On a pleasant mid November afternoon about 10-12 TWIG members visited Bibi Hanum’s showroom. The group as stated by TWIG’s President Cholpon, who is also the representative of Kyrgyz Embassy in Uzbekistan consisted of cheerful, active and design oriented women who were fascinated by Uzbekistan’s arts and crafts.
TWIG is an international women’s club with a membership of 150 women who represent various foreign businesses, embassies and diplomatic services that are operating in Uzbekistan. This non-profit club having 4-6 board members with an elected President organizes various charity events and activities. One of their mission is to also keep the expat community stay busy and connected with each other.
After engaging video presentation about Bibi Hanum’s work, Muhayo had a chance to meet each member of the group closely while others were waiting impatiently to have a look at the colorful and attractive clothes that were waiting to be tried on. The showroom got hectic with many questions and comments about the art that Bibi Hanum creates. After about an hour and a half, the ladies made their decisions about what to get and what to get later. Some left and some stayed later to talk more about the future collaboration as Bibi Hanum is always open to work on various projects that can support women and children.
