Arlington, Texas hosted the first Sister City location of the internationally renowned International Folk Art Market, Santa Fe rated the Best Art Festival in America by USA Today. Bibi Hanum was selected to participate in this pioneer market for the first time. The market took place at the University of Arlington Campus and featured Bibi Hanum along with other 34 artists from around the world. The market began with the on June 16 where guests enjoyed the evening party with nice music and food and had the opportunity to meet the artists and shop their collections. For two days Bibi Hanum presented its ethnic collection with ikat robes, kaftans and embroidered suzani accessories.
Wonderful volunteers such as Hilary Cooper, Jennifer and others helped Bibi Hanum keep up with the queue of clients and stay cool in the hot Texas sun. While artists were busy selling baskets, beadwork, handmade jewelry, textiles, carvings and ceramics, Paul Knudsen professional photographer was making beautiful portraits of the artists. The last day on June 17 the market opened its doors to public to shop for folk art and included internationally inspired food and entertainments for the guests. It was an enjoyable and fun experience to be part of the IFAM’s Arlington Market and we hope the tradition will continue for many years to come.
